Week 16: Hold the World Lightly

In Sufism, we’re taught to hold the world in our hands… not in our hearts.

This doesn’t mean we abandon the world or live with the bare minimum (at least not in its balanced form).

It means we can live fully… while remembering that our happiness should not depend on something that can, and will, eventually fade.

Our lives are so much like seasons.

There is spring, where we bloom.

Summer, where we grow tired and learn to endure.

Autumn, where things begin to fall away.

And winter, where we rest before beginning again.

In this cycle, the only constant is change.

Our bodies change.

Our circumstances change.

The people around us change.

So if our happiness depends on any of these… we are bound to feel loss again and again.

But when we hold the world in our hands, not our hearts, something shifts.

We begin to accept.

To soften.

To love life not because it stays… but because it moves.

And maybe that’s where peace lives.
